DESCRIPTION:Event Details\nFirst Saturday Plant Walk – Festival Beach Food Forest\nEvery First Saturday from 9am to 11am we walk among the plants and point out what is growing\, what can be harvested\, how to use the medicinal herbs and invite you to be part of the Food Forest family. It’s a perfect time for people who have never visited to come and check it out\, or for people who have come many times to take home a bag of medicinal herbs and plants to make tea with or add to their meals at home. \nFirst Saturdays are a perfect time to connect with the earth\, find relief and relaxation from the mechanical world and be taken in by the diverse kaleidoscope of our natural and social systems. We want you to find yourselves inside of something larger\, feel the mind-blowing delight from discovering something new about the systems of our earth\, and be humbled by the grace and interconnection of it all. DESCRIPTION:The Seed Collection has taken root! \nThe Central Texas Seed Savers and the Austin Public Library are committed to supporting the local environment and community by sharing seeds and related knowledge through our programming and circulating collection. We believe that seeds are nutritional and historical suitcases which contain the potential for both physical and cultural sustenance. Seed collections like ours are intended to promote sustainability\, self-sufficiency\, food security and interpersonal exchange. \nHow does it work? \nBrowse the drawers\, check out up to four seed packets per visit and record them on our checkout clipboard on top of the catalog cabinet. When you have extra seeds\, keep the spirit alive with a donation. Fill out a form from drawer 19\, and place it with the donation in drawer 20. SUMMARY:Second Saturday Workday at Festival Beach Food Forest
DESCRIPTION:What to expect:\nVolunteer days at FBFF involve various gardening and site maintenance activities that vary by season. Sometimes we are planting and sowing seeds\, sometimes we are spreading mulch\, working on pathways and irrigation\, pruning or cutting back vegetation\, etc. It’s always a beautiful day and a learning opportunity. Come prepared to be plugged in to a task by the FBFF Plant Team volunteers. \nWhat to bring:\n– Wear work clothes and sturdy closed-toe shoes\n– full water bottle\n– [optional] your own gardening gloves and tools\n– whatever weather protection is needed that day (sun protection\, a rain jacket\, etc.)\n– whatever else you need to be safe and satisfied (snacks\, medication\, EpiPen\, etc) \nPlant Team Volunteers often stay after the work day to unwind and socialize in the park for a bit — you are welcome to join\, and might consider packing a lunch or a cooler (no glass).
