We recently were honored to host a powerful day at St. John Faith Community Garden! With 75 volunteers and incredible partners: TreeFolks, Symbiosis TX, Central Texas Seed Savers, and support from the Urban Forest Grant  we planted 20 fruit trees and 80 companion plants, expanding the garden’s fruit orchard.

TreeFolks kicked things off with a hands-on planting demonstration, and their Super Volunteers were instrumental in guiding small groups through each tree installation with care and precision.

Symbiosis TX helped to activate the berms they constructed the week prior, incorporating biochar to nourish the soil and leading volunteers through drip irrigation installation. Along the way, participants learned practical techniques — including how orienting a tree’s graft toward the north can strengthen it against prevailing winds.

Meanwhile, Anthony Flores (TreeFolks) and Colleen Dieter (Central Texas Seed Savers) led teams in mulching and pruning the established orchard, ensuring long-term health and productivity.

The result: a thriving, well-supported orchard ready for a resilient summer.
