Keep Austin Community-Led This Amplify Austin Day!
Amplify Austin Day (March 6 pm, 4– 6 pm, March 5) is the biggest local day of giving in Central Texas, a chance to strengthen the grassroots organizations that make Austin vibrant, healthy, and community-centered.
This year, your support for Fruitful Commons goes directly toward sustaining and expanding community-led green spaces and reinforcing the local leadership behind them.
Our Mission:
Fruitful Commons supports neighborhood leaders and organizations to grow food, strengthen communities, and foster stewardship of the natural commons.
Our Story:
Over a decade ago, a group of passionate green space champions gathered in Austin with a shared dream of building the first public food forest in Texas. After years of community planning, that vision became Festival Beach Food Forest, a thriving, three-acre oasis filled with fruit trees, medicinal plants, and volunteers caring for the land together. What began on a small patch of parkland is now a beloved community space that feeds both people and connection.

Festival Beach Food Forest is a thriving community-led edible forest in downtown Austin
Fruitful Commons grew out of the real challenges behind that success. Our founders saw how difficult it was for grassroots groups to access land, navigate city systems, and sustain their work. Today, we provide fiscal sponsorship, advocacy, Tree Care Mini Grants, and technical support so neighbors can turn underused spaces into thriving community assets and protect them when they’re at risk.
That advocacy was put to the test recently, when part of Festival Beach Food Forest was unexpectedly dug up for a major wastewater pipeline tied to the I-35 expansion. With only a month’s notice, our team stepped in alongside community leaders. Together, we pushed back construction (by a few days), organized emergency workdays, and mobilized nearly 100 volunteers to relocate more than 90 trees and plants. Because of this collective effort, years of community and City investment were saved.
This is what your support makes possible!
Advocacy, land agreements, and fiscal sponsorship are among our most essential services and also the most difficult to fund due to lack of grant opportunities. Your gift helps ensure that community leaders can focus on growing food, building relationships, and caring for the land, while we handle the systems behind the scenes.
Your generosity today will strengthen backbone support for projects like Friends of Grand Meadow, which is preparing to break ground on a new food forest and community garden this fall, and many more across Central Texas. When you give to Fruitful Commons, you’re investing in neighbors, resilience, and shared spaces that nourish our region for generations.
